On January 25, 2010 KAAGNY (Young-hwa Ha, President, Young-duk Kim, Counsel Advisor, John Kim, VP, Kwang-soo Kim, President for External Affairs ) had a meeting with Kate Seely-Kirk, District Offices Chief of Staff, Jasper Li, Jose Corde from the Speakers office of New York City Council to discuss how to improve the quality of Korean American’s lives in New York areas and to build closer relation between the City Council and KAAGNY.

 

President Young-haw Ha shared about his concern regarding sanitation on 32nd street, mainly known as KoreaWay and proposed several agendas to improve the environment neatly. For example, he addressed to remove the unnecessary parking signs or  taxi parking. 32nd street is a very busy business district. Many taxi drivers just park their cab haggling passengers which hamper pedestrians, visitors, or many business people in KoreaWay. We even formed a group to clean the district voluntarily, however, because of taxi drivers or parking signs we could not clean the street,” said Mr. Ha. Another concern relating to the sanitation issue was sewage or bad smell from potholes on the street. 

 

          Mr. Ha then stated the KAAGNY’s 50th anniversary celebration in June 12, 2010 to hosting many cultural events and remembering the diversity of Korean Americans and many other ethnic groups in the greater New York areas. As more than 30,000 people will be expected to participating the KAAGNY’s 50th anniversary, Mr. Ha currently seeks for the ideal location to host the event.

  

         Lastly, Mr. Ha emphasized that it is important to give more internship opportunities to Korean Americans.
