2009 will be remembered as a year when the Korean American community produced 4 outstanding candidates for the New York City Council in their various districts. We hope this is also the same year that the first American of Korean descent will take his rightful seat on the City Council Chambers.
The candidates Kevin Kim, Sung Jin Chung, John Choi, and PJ Jin Hae Kim took their turns seeking the support of our community. This well attended candidates’ night was not only a great opportunity to hear directly from the candidates their visions and aspirations for this great City of New York. Following the footsteps of Harold Koh and Washington State Senator Paul Shin, these young politicians displayed how they were made of the right stuff. New York City deserves public servants who want to serve for the right reason.
Each candidate left no doubt that their service will benefit the whole City of New York. Our beloved city faces many serious challenges during this terrible recession. We are very fortunate to have such qualified Americans of Korean descent to represent us. KAAGNY will in turn motivate our community to do their part in terms of increasing voter registration and voter turnout. KAAGNY believes we as a community must arise to such an occasion and promote all within it to do their civic duty. Regardless of the choice of the candidates, the most important thing is that we “VOTE”.
KAAGNY wishes good luck to all our proud candidates. We know they will not let us down and work hard to achieve their goals. We in turn must not let them down by not staying home on the election date.
